The exhibition invites us to meet 12 Mayan elders, prominent figures from ceremonial centers and historic sites. Through powerful photographic portraits and recordings of their voices, the elders share the tradition of Hanal Pixán, the Mayan celebration of the Day of the Dead, and its deep meaning for them and their communities. These guardians of memory offer their vision of the connection between the worlds of the living and the dead, and highlight the importance of preserving practices and beliefs that have endured for generations. The exhibition is a tribute to the living Mayan culture, where traditions of the past continue to guide the paths of the present.
